Denzel Washington is a respected actor and filmmaker. He has starred in many movies such as Flight (2012), Malcolm X (1992), and Glory (1989). Denzel was born in Mount Vernon, New York, on December 28, 1954. He went to Fordham University and studied journalism. At first he was a bad student and left college for a while. He then returned to college with a new interest, acting. He won a scholarship to the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. This was the start to his acting career.
His debut was in a movie called A Carbon Copy (1981). He then was casted into a very successful TV show called St. Elsewhere (1982-88). He has had five Oscar nominations over the years also. His first was for Cry Freedom but he didn't win the Oscar. His first Oscar win was in 1989 with the film Glory. And in 2001 he won his second Oscar for Training Day. The following year he directed his first film called, Antwone Fisher. He also co-starred in this film.
Washington is a very good actor. He gives great emotional depth in his movies and it makes you feel that he is actually experiencing the event. For example, in Glory he was whipped and he showed great emotion that made it seem like he was actually getting whipped. Also in Training Day he has to act like a corrupt police officer, and he pulls it off well enough to win an Oscar. Washington has always been able to adopt emotional roles that may be tough, but he has been able to make it seem like he has experienced the emotions before. Overall Denzel Washington is a very good actor and he has been able to be a great actor by adapting to the situation. He uses the emotions very well and it won him two Oscars.
1. I have learned that to act you really have to be able to use your emotions that you may not necessarily feel, but the character would feel during the play. Also that you have to react to what other people say and make it clear that you have reacted. Denzel Washington is so good at reacting to what other people are saying, and it has helped him become a great actor.
2. I will incorporate this by trying to figure out what my character is feeling during the moment. In the play since he resents Skinner for being close to Owen, I need to show that more when I am speaking to him. I could add more emotion in my actions and voice to make my acting seem like I am a junior high kid, not a kid reading off a script. I can try to add-lib a little bit to make it seem like I am more of a kid. I will try ton improve on my acting. This project helped a lot.
